Ours are made on a traditional cotton bobbinet knicker with ten layers of netting, a decorative plate and a bodice which is fully lined with cotton coutil and supported with spiral steel boning where necessary. The tutus are hooped to keep their shape, and the layers are all hand tacked together so that they don't separate and flap when the dancer moves. (For pancake styles budget between £500-£1000 depending on the cost of materials and the level of handwork involved. Savings can be made on bulk orders.)

PROFESSIONAL QUALITY PERFORMANCE TUTUS

The average performance tutu takes a full week (or more) to build.

They are complicated structures involving many different stages.

We use the finest quality fabrics the budget will allow, so that they not only look and feel fantastic, but they'll last well too.

Tutus can be expensive but if they are made properly they can be passed or sold on.

LILAC FAIRY 1

Made to measure tutu, bespoke design. Bodice of lilac silk dupion with a sparkling sheer overlay to catch the light. Lots of dewy jewels, trims and bead droplets to catch the light on stage. Featuring a hidden cotton coutil basque for a really good fit.

LILAC FAIRY 2

A shimmering fairy costume designed to fit size 8 - 10 dancer. To achieve a decent fit the tutu was prepared with several hook positions at the back of the bodice, and drawstrings within the top line to pull in tighter where necessary.

The tutu had sleeve frills with matching embellishments for an extra floaty feel.

AURORA

A truly gorgeous, bejewelled, opulent tutu with lots of layers of decoration on the over skirt and the bodice, with gently graded netting layers of soft shades to match. Pretty little capped sleeves. Lots and lots of detail and lots of hand sewing was required to achieve this look.

BLUEBIRD

Stock item, original one-off design. This exquisite tutu bodice is made from airbrushed silk, with hand painted silk feathers, and sequins with a stunning plate to match. The tutu layers are a mixture of ivory and different shades of blue.

WOODLAND FAIRY

Designed with the role of the Woodland Fairy in mind but generic enough to be versatile for other porposes in the future for KS Dance in Warrington. Constructed with enough scope to suit a number of dancer's different body shapes, whilst still keeping a good snug fit.

FINGER FAIRY

Like the Woodland Fairy costume above, this one was designed with the role of the Finger Fairy in mind but generic enough to be versatile for other purposes in the future for KS Dance in Warrington. Constructed with enough scope to suit a number of dancer's different body shapes, whilst still keeping a good secure fit. Two rich reds in silk dupion were used, along with appliqué details in red & gold, and a vibrant light-catching vine motif in white gold.

FESTIVAL TUTU 1

Made at short notice from fabrics we happened to have (we've hoarded lots over the years!) for a family member. We left a little room for growth in the fit hoping that it might get another appearance one day. The feature fabrics for the basque and bodice are not actually silk but they shimmer very nicely under the stage lighting.

LES SYLPHIDES

Supply of the skirts only, to team with the dance school's existing bodices. The skirts were all made to specific lengths for each dancer's height to ensure that the floor-to-base of skirt measurements were all equal. Little arm puffs completed the look.
